Wild Beasts and Their Ways Reminiscences of Europe Asia Africa and America — Volume 1 eBook Samuel White Baker Reviews
Very interesting and amenable collection of hunting stories and recollections about guns, game and their habitat.
The book is very pleasing to read and very detailed with the autors memories of hunts in Africa, Asia and North America.
The book is recomended both to hunters and outdoorsmen, best book I have read by Samuel Baker.
hunting and exploring adventures
Very interesting stories of hunting dangerous game in foreign lands and under circumstances that can never be experienced again except in book form.
funny stuff, lots of good short stories, elephant running from a rabbit, funny as can be on a tiger hunt
A great book by Sir Samuel Baker from a bygone era of hunting. In the 19th Century Baker was one of the first to show some concern for the actual welfare of the big game he hunted across India and Africa. Fascinating technical details blended with exciting hunting tales. Not for the squeamish but a necessary read for anyone interested in colonial history and /or big game hunting. His descriptions of tiger hunts in the Brahmaputra deserve all 5 stars !
A great book by Sir Samuel W. Baker. I admire the writing style and his ethics that he differentiate between killing and hunting. Though I was utterly disappointed by reading his book "The Rifle And Hound In Ceylon" where he wantonly killed Buffaloes and Elephants (including the half grown ones). Aside from "The Rifle And Hound In Ceylon", I admire the true hunting and sportsmanship spirit of the author. You will learn very detailed and first-hand experiences of author with Big Game animals in many parts of the world. This book is intended to be full of knowledge but still you can find exciting hunting experiences of the writer.
Sir Samuel baker was one of the great "white hunters" in the late 19th century, who roamed Africa and India in search of game and ivory. His writings are classics that are mandatory for anyone contemplating an Afriocan hunt, or even just touring a game park. he lived in the African bush for years and thoroughly understood the animals he hunted. Considering the period in which this book was written, the writing is surprisingly straightforward and fluent, very accessible to modern speakers of English. Well worth the minimal cost, though to my mind he spends a bit too much time on the Indian shiakr than the African safari.
